In product development, an as-is map is a version of a process map that depicts how an existing process actually operates. This may differ substantially from documented guidelines. An as-is map can be helpful in identifying areas where the current process is inefficient or could be improved. It can also be used to compare the as-is process with the desired future state, in order to develop a plan for improvement. As-is maps are commonly used in business process improvement projects. In some cases, they may also be referred to as current state maps.
