Closed Ecological Systems

A closed ecological system is a product development strategy in which the company takes a closed-loop approach to supply chain and materials management. In a traditional linear model, companies extract raw materials, use them to create products, and then dispose of the waste. In a closed ecological system, the company instead seeks to keep materials in use for as long as possible and recycle them back into the production process when they are no longer needed. By taking this approach, the company can reduce its environmental impact, improve its resource efficiency, and create a more sustainable business model. While closed ecological systems are not yet common in the product development world, they are beginning to gain attention as more companies seek to operate in a more sustainable manner.
