Material Requirements Specification

A Material Requirements Specification (MRS) is a document that quantifies the materials needed to produce a product. In addition, the MRS provides information on the type, quantity, and quality of materials required and any special handling or storage requirements. In product development, the MRS is used to help ensure that all the necessary materials are available when needed and that they meet the required specifications; this helps to avoid delays and disruptions in the manufacturing process. The engineering team typically develops the MRS during the design phase of product development and then reviews and updates regularly as the production process evolves.
